Welcome!

I’m Kyle Gontjes, a sixth-year PhD candidate in Microbiology & Immunology at the University of Michigan.

My research integrates clinical metadata and whole-genome sequencing to investigate the evolution and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms in complex populations, including those in long-term acute care hospitals, nursing home, and household settings.

I conduct my research in the Snitkin Lab, where we focus on microbial genomics, molecular epidemiology, and bacterial evolution.

Next steps!

I am seeking postdoctoral or research scientist positions in genomic epidemiology, with special preference to continuing clinically-relevant research on antibiotic resistance in bacterial pathogens.

I plan to defend my PhD in February or March 2026. I will be available to start a new position in June or July.

Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect or know of a relevant opportunity!
