Welcome!

I’m Kyle Gontjes, a researcher in the Microbiology & Immunology Department at the University of Michigan.

My research integrates clinical metadata and whole-genome sequencing to investigate the evolution and transmission of multidrug-resistant organisms in complex populations, including those in long-term acute care hospitals, nursing home, and household settings.

I conduct my research in the Snitkin Lab, where we focus on microbial genomics, molecular epidemiology, and bacterial evolution.

Next steps!

I defended my thesis on March 11th, 2026!

Later this year, I will start a research faculty appointment (Research Investigator) in the department. I am excited to continue my genomic epidemiology at the University of Michigan.
